Over 500 People In Raleigh Get Their Heads Shaved

RALEIGH - During recent St. Baldrick’s Day events in Raleigh, over 500 people, including at least five women, got their heads shaved to benefit charity.

The events are held every year in Raleigh and across the country to raise money for children’s cancer research.  People sign up to have their heads completely shaved and then get friends, family, and other sponsors to donate to the cause if they follow through on getting their locks sheared.

In Raleigh, the event is held at the Hibernian Irish Pub and Restaurant on Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh.  Along with Niall Hanley, the owner of the Hibernian and Randall Gregg, the editor of The Raleigh Telegram, several members of the Rock 96 radio station crew got their heads shaved.

One staff member of the 96 Rock crew even got his eyebrows shaved when someone offered an additional $300 for charity if he accepted their dare.

Others accepted similar challenges as one man accepted a dare to get his head halfway shaven while a man wearing a multi-colored clown hairdo accepted a challenge to cut his hair down the middle and leave it that way for a month.

For those who missed the event at the Hibernian, another St. Baldrick’s event will take place on Saturday, March 13th at Napper Tandy’s Irish pub at the intersection of Jones and West Streets in downtown Raleigh.
