VANCOUVER -
The ceremonies included tributes to Canada’s aboriginal people as well as its diverse geography including mountains that rose out of the middle of the stage and recreations of the vast prairie lands in Canada.
Highlights of the opening ceremonies included musical performances by Canadian singer Bryan Adams, the appearance of a giant polar bear, and the lighting of the Olympic cauldron by Canadian hockey great Wayne Gretzky.
